I was reading this book on a train and nearly missed my destination stop, as I was so enthralled.
I won’t give much away, as I do not want to spoil it for other readers, however, this is I will say …. your emotions will get a workout! The story has it all, surprises, excitement and breathtaking suspense.
5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the read.
Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2014I couldn’t put this book down! Mrs, Jeeves’ character is so full of fun. She isn’t typical at all. The write-up of the novel is what drew me. It made me wonder. When you mention the word widow you immediately think of a woman who is a little older. As for Peter, well I had the same thoughts. I would prefer a hotel. But after reading this I am glad he chose the B&B! This novel is full of fun. Lots of laughter. Oh there are moments when you take a deep breath and wonder what is going to happen. But things right themselves and the happiness is back. I can definitely recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the very first page to the last! Such a feel good read right through!
5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful and happy story this is. This is definitely a clean, cozy romance.

What a wonderful and happy story this is. This is definitely a clean, cozy romance which could happen to almost anyone if they are lucky enough! Mrs. Jeeves, the owner of the B&B has a hidden side to her! At the B&B she is ultra conservative--but hidden inside is a fun loving woman with a marvelous voice which for a dare she parleys into free food for her B&B. Claire is suddenly out of a job and turns to Mrs. Jeeves who takes her in-acting more like a Mom then anything else. Meanwhile Claire's father Peter who has raised Claire as a single father her entire life comes to the B&B for a vacation. And the rest as they say is history!
I will definitely be reading more of Bridgitte Lesley's books--what a breathe of fresh air!

A MASTERFULLY WRITTEN - GRIPPING TALE - MIDNIGHT OWL: A JOE LEVERETTE MYSTERY BOOK 1 BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR VIV DREWA
Detectives Joe Leverette and Philip Marsden are assigned to investigate the murder of a woman who was found dismembered in Port Huron, Michigan. After investigations, it is discovered the murderer is going after the individuals who found each of the body parts.
Leverette becomes interested in Carole Sage, one of the women involved, who is a sensitive but is unable to pursue her due to her involvement in the case. His colleagues in the police force notice the infatuation he has for the woman, but she does not.
The witnesses dream about the murderer removing the particular body part they would eventually find, are startled awake and then they hear an owl hoot several times. Fearing skepticism, they don't reveal their dreams to law enforcement.
Carole Sage actually sees the original murder plus the murder of the individual witnesses. Police Chief Billingsley understands the gift she possesses and arranges a sting operation in order to catch the murderer which fails. Two witnesses are dead and they don't want any more to die.
This books is for 18+ due to the violence.
5.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Usual Cosy Murder Mystery!
Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2016Midnight Owl is the first book in the Joe Leverette Mystery Series. Don’t get too comfortable because the book starts off with a real bang. The action erupts on page one as a young woman is stalked. We, the readers, get to watch her death by dismemberment. That’s right, dismemberment. So if you’re looking for a sweet little murder mystery with a Miss Marple lookalike pottering around, think again. This is not it. The body is cut into six parts, and these parts are found by six individuals, completely unrelated to each other or the victim. The problem is, each ‘witness’ has had a horrible dream involving seeing the criminal kill the young woman. The body part they dream about is the one they find. They awaken to the sound of an owl hooting three times. Naturally, they don’t tell the police this because they’d be thought mad or even suspects. An even bigger problem is the killer is now going after these ‘witnesses’ and he manages to kill two. Detective Joe Leverette, who is assigned to the case, finds himself (hesitantly) attracted to one of the witnesses, Carole Sage, who is a ‘sensitive,’ meaning she can see the original murder and the murders of the two witnesses. The police sting set up to catch the killer fails, but is Carole next on his list?
Well, put aside your chores because you’ll just read and read and read (as I did) until you fall off the edge of the cliff. There’s no cliff-hanger in the conventional sense. The book ends with the reader going, “Oh no, don’t end now!” I’m a bit of a cosy mystery fan so this one had my hair standing on end. I love things that are slightly paranormal, but not outside the bounds of what could happen. I found the idea of the dreams and Carole’s psychic abilities fascinating. I also found the fact that the chief of police accepted her help in this regard quite refreshing. I wonder how many times a psychic has pointed out the location of a body to the police.
The book is quite graphic, but when you consider some novels and television series that make sure the reader/viewer is awash in blood and gore, I didn’t think this level of action overstepped the bounds. Murder, after all, is a bloody business and to commit cold, premediated murder, one has to be a particularly horrible person. I was disappointed that the book ended so abruptly, literally at the moment critique, but I have it on good authority that the author is writing furiously to continue the tale. I’m dying to know who the killer is, why the ‘witnesses’ had dreams, what’s the meaning of the owl hooting, so I’m eagerly waiting for the next in the series. I didn’t feel I got to know as much about Joe Leverette as I’d have liked, but that’s what sequels are for, and I hope the author expands on his character and back story. I’m also rooting for a romance between him and Carole. If you’re a murder mystery or detective thriller fan, you’ll love this book. Five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Suspenseful Thriller
Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2015
I love thrillers, but the one thing I’m always missing is a story with a strong female in the lead role. And that’s exactly what this book has. Gwynn Reznick is a resourceful young woman, who knows her stuff when it comes to stealthy, undercover operations, and she uses all her skills and charms to get the job done. The one thing I really loved about this book is how the author managed to portray Gwynn as a skilled undercover operative, or PI, in a world of high stakes business without sacrificing her femininity, or having her do her job using seduction, etc. which seems to be the stereotypical role of women in thrillers.
Overall, the book is very well written and well paced. The author has a clear and concise writing style and I had no trouble picturing the scenes in the book as they unfolded. The twists and turns will keep you guessing right up to the end, and, believe me, you’ll be glued to the page for the duration. I know I was!
Highly recommended for all thriller fans!

"An original and compelling read from beginning to end, "The Cost of Crude" by author Inge-Lise Goss clearly demonstrates her master of the mystery/suspense genre and is very highly recommended..."--Midwest Book Review
"The Cost of Crude is a work of fiction--a modern-day murder mystery, set against the backdrop of a two large-scale oil companies dueling for maximum profits. It is a page-turning thriller that continuously challenges the reader's assumptions about what will happen next." --The Portsmouth Review
"Inge-Lise Goss' romantic thriller, The Cost of Crude, is exciting and fast-paced. The author's experience auditing oil and gas companies makes the story feel authentic and real. Gwynn and Ruben are great main characters, both headstrong, independent and determined to keep things professional, and it's fun watching them interact. The plot is well-developed and the reader is swiftly thrown into action from the very first page. I enjoyed seeing how Ruben and his security team worked together and functioned as a team, complete with undercover agents and even a doctor who has miracle healing salves that work overnight. The Cost of Crude is also filled with political intrigue and the main story line is especially relevant with current concerns over the environment and the effects the oil and gas industries are having on it. The Cost of Crude is recommended reading." --Jack Magnus, Readers FavoriteReviewer
