5.0 out of 5 stars A cheeky take on a foul-mouthed British detective exiled to a Canadian metropolis

Can the Andrew Dice Clay of British detectives get in touch with his inner nice guy when banished to Toronto? One can only hope the renowned politeness of his new Canadian colleagues rubs off on him and quick once this defective detective opens his mouth to speak. The stream of inappropriate epithets is jarring, to say the least. It's no wonder he was exiled to [North] America by his Manchester superiors. Nigel Holmes's is loathsome and, oh yes, he also let a serial killer escape after the man killed the woman he loved. Dereliction of duty left him damaged personally and professionally. Needless to say, his new compatriots are not that thrilled to meet Nigel. He and his new partner, Kristen Sherlock [yes, Sherlock & Holmes] don't hit it off, but she deploys her niceness to correct and control the out of control Brit. Kristen's got trouble of her own, though. Not all Canadian police officers are nice and there's an especially nasty one who has it in for Kristen. Why? Well, that's part of what this 'whydunit' is about. Can Sherlock avoid becoming a victim of her vicious colleague's wrath? Can Holmes shed his barbarous ways so that he's a suitable colleague and partner for anyone, anywhere? You'll have to read Holmes in America to find out--tongue planted firmly in cheek.

When Kristen Sherlock is on probation and gets the job of babysitting British Detective Nigel Holmes all hell will break loose. The partnership between Sherlock and Holmes becomes an all-out war with a corrupt cop and his minions.
The tension mounts, villains come out of the walls, Sherlock and Eversley fall in love and a good friendship evolves between Sherlock and Holmes as he loses some of the last vestiges of his bad social skills.
I adored this book and can hardly wait for a new installment of the Sherlock and Holmes partnership, or do I say the collaboration between Sherlock, Eversley, and Holmes?
It’s impossible not to love Ms. Vaughan’s books. They are a definite go-to when one wants a good read, with a tad of romance, a lot of suspense, murder, and great plots.

Lots of suspense, multiple missions and a mystery complete this novel.
Paislee Hobson has escaped and she goes undercover in Portland at a courthouse. She is coached by Tate ..as he is also a member of the rebels. Using an assumed name, Paislee has been given her first mission and that is to determine which judges may be androids. Is she paranoid or are events occurring to create this feeling?
Pellegrin has also been promoted ..now he is overseeing the West Coast institutes...Yes, the plot thickens with this promotion as Paislee has a new mission in LA. AHA...
When a reader is so engrossed in a novel that androids seem to be real, the author has created an excellent piece of work. In addition to the dystopian features such as the levels in this society and the manners in which the humans are controlled, the reader is drawn in to the story as though a magnet has been attached on their body.
For me, a fascinating glimpse into the controlling aspects ..microchips, listening devices, and visual devices all play a key role in this novel. Uncle Ward should also be mentioned as a person of 'interest'.
Definitely will read more by this author as she has a style of writing that I do enjoy. Clear, concise with excellent character development, a well defined plot and an intriguing setting which indeed compliments the writing.

I think Karen Vaughan must have fun every time she sits down to write a story, Thankfully the humor and fun come through n her books and readers get a delightful read that also adds in murder, mystery and suspense. The novels with Laura and Gerry are a series that can also be read as stand alone books, I highly recommend all of them because readers will love the characters the author has created. In this story, murder and mystery connect to mob ties and the adventure is on. For me, I loved that a neighbor of Laura and Gerry's and a tenant in the building they manage is the one caught up in murder. Through the books, I have found, Stella is the character you love to hate. Grabbing a book by this author always guarantees a good read, a fun story and a murderous adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars DELIGHTFUL MURDER MYSTERY
Left for Dead by Karen Vaughan, is witty and intelligently told mystery story. It’s the 6th in the Laura and Gerry mysteries series and a delightfully penned book.
It seems even pregnancy will not stop Laura Fitz from being a corpse magnet, as she stumbles yet again onto another dead body. While Laura is talking to the police, she receives a phone call from hubby. Apparently, Laura’s gift or curse for discovering the dead and becoming embroiled in the nasty affairs of the murder has rubbed off on to Gerry, for he has found his cousin near death.
The Fitz’s have once again become entangled in murder, mayhem, the lives of others along with the danger it entails. But, through it, all Laura remains her witty self. Gerry doesn’t fair as well as his love for Laura and their coming baby, upset his judgement at times. After all, it is difficult to be objective when the life of one's wife is on the line.
Ms. Vaughan has another terrific read in Left for Dead. I enjoyed this book enormously and highly recommend it to everyone.
A WONDERFUL GIFT FOR ANYONE FROM 8 TO 108 - LOTTIE'S ADVENTURE: FACING THE MONSTER BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR BARBARA FRANCES.
Lottie's Adventure: Facing The Monster, is an action-packed children's book written especially for ages 8 through 14. Children will enjoy this exciting read while also improving their reading skills. Twenty-nine chapters filled with twists and turns keep kids reading to discover the outcome.
Lottie, a lively ten-year old Hispanic girl, longs for something new and different in her life. Her summers up to this point have all been, more or less, the same. Then the arrival of a magical letter and a TV newscast transforms her vacation time in a high adventure.
Her great adventure includes trying to relate to a cold, estranged, and rich grandmother, freeing a kidnapped ten-year-old African American boy from a locked room, hiding him in a safe place, and then fleeing with him from a kidnapper who is always just a step or two behind.
Lottie's Adventure is a vibrant chapter book mystery for preteens that emphasizes the importance of intergenerational communication and love as well as the immense value of thinking beyond cultural stereotypes. To develop a new moral code or vision, both these elements are crucial. Perhaps the most striking quality of "Lottie's Adventure: Facing The Monster" is its powerful positive energy. Featuring a spunky 10-year-old Hispanic heroine, "Lottie's Adventure" keeps interest high and pages turning with exciting plot twists and turns and believable cliffhangers that just keep evolving. The author allows her characters to develop very naturally, with total authenticity. There are many excellent ideas embedded in the story, not the least of which is that people, even wise adults, can learn to admit they are wrong. "Lottie's Adventure" goes a long way towards building a viable alternative to prejudice, and for that and many other reasons, it is highly recommended juvenile reading for kids age 10 and up.
While reading Barbara Frances’ chapter book Lottie’s Adventure: Facing the Monster, I was swept back to the books of my childhood. A place where tweens helped each other and became heroes without the use of make-believe or magic brooms. Just plain old smarts, ingenuity, and integrity.
I was engrossed in the story of Lottie, a Hispanic girl, as she helped Charles Ray a black boy, who had been kidnapped escape and confront the bad guy, outsmarting him, while facing their own fears. The friendship that grew between the two was a lesson in how people all want the same things out of life regardless of their upbringing, race, or nationality.
It is a compelling and wonderful tale that I’d recommend to both adults and the tween alike.
LIKE I USED TO DANCE - BY BARBARA FRANCES IS A FASCINATING TALE OF LIFE IN THE 1950'S AND FULL OF COMPASSION, HUMOR, AND SUSPENSE.
“Our kids, my, my, Gracie” laughed Bud. “Where did we go wrong? One marries God, another a Jew and the last one, the devil!”
Texas, 1951. The Wolanskys—Grace, Bud and their three grown children—are a close-knit clan, deeply rooted in their rural community and traditional faith. On their orderly farm, life seems good and tomorrow always holds promise.
But under the surface, it’s a different story. Grace is beset by dark memories and unnamed fears, calmed only by practicing a secret obsession. Their son Andy has said no to becoming a farmer like his dad and, worse, has fallen in love with a big-city Jewish girl. Youngest child Regina is trapped in a loveless marriage to an abusive, alcoholic husband. Even “perfect” daughter Angela’s decision to become a nun unleashes consequences no one could foresee.
And then Ceil Dollard breezes into town.
Ceil—wealthy, sophisticated, irrepressible—is like a visitor from Mars. She’s a modern woman. She drives a car and wears pants. She blows away tradition and certainty, forcing Grace to face her fears and brave a changing world. Through Ceil, Grace learns about courage and pleasure—but at the risk of losing Bud.
Barbara Frances’ sparkling, richly human novel takes you back to a time when Ike was president and life was slower, but people were the same as now. You’ll encounter a cast of characters storm-tossed by change, held together by love. Written with compassion, humor and suspense, Like I Used to Dance will charm you, warm you and even squeeze a few tears, from its opening number to the last waltz.
LOVE IT! - Family Saga Full of Drama and Heart
Don’t start this book before bedtime or you’ll be late to work! I love family sagas and this one swept me along. It’s about Grace, a warm, creative woman strong for her family but out of touch with her own needs. The place is rural Texas and the time is the fifties, when women were still trapped as homemakers. The family is Catholic and Grace’s daughters have their own struggles. Angela is unsure if she should become a nun and Regina has to decide if she’ll divorce her abusive husband. Grace herself is a talented artist who has never realized her potential. She develops a close bond with Ceil, a sophisticated transplant from LA who blows into the life of Grace and her family like a powerful wind. In the end, everything turn s out but nothing is the same. A great read!

TAKE A ROMP THROUGH THE SWAMPS & MANSIONS OF THE 1980'S SOUTH. SHADOW'S WAY - BY BARBARA FRANCES WILL BREAK YOUR HEART & HAUNT YOUR MIND - A MURDER MYSTERY & MADNESS
Prepare to be spellbound. Barbara Frances' long-awaited third novel is available NOW! Shadow's Way, takes you to the coastal, deep South, where the past and the present mingle in a gothic tale of insanity, murder, and sexual intrigue.
You'll meet the beautiful Elaine Chauvier, former actress and proprietor of Shadow's Way, her family's antebellum home; the esteemed Archbishop Andre Figurant and his fallen identical twin, Bastien; newly arrived Ophelia and Rudy, here to explore their Chauvier roots and their ties to Shadow's Way; and the mysterious Madame Claudine. Under a veneer of piety and graciousness, i.e., the questions: What is good? What is evil? What is reality?
The suspense was unbelievable
Elaine Chauvier ran a bed and breakfast from her Antebellum home.
Archbishop Andre Figurant had just finished Mass and was seeing his parishioners out.
Bastian Figurant is the identical twin of the Archbishop.
Ofelia was Elaine's half-sister and was the child of her father's second wife.
Rudy was both Ofelia and Elaine's cousin and he was coming to visit.
Elaine thought she had gotten rid of the family but Ofelia was here and Rudy was coming in a week or so. She did not want to share Shadow's Way and she wouldn't.
Lanita worked for the Archbishop for six years as his housekeeper
A mystery set in the south just before a big hurricane comes to land. I enjoyed it and it was complicated with surprises, twists, and turns. It was well writen and moved smoothly. The characters were well developed and interesting. The author did an excellent job keeping all the things together. It was coherent, laid out intelligently and kept your attention till the end. I don't usually read Mystery but this was a good one and I was glad I got the chance.
I received this book as a gift from my niece, and cannot thank her enough.
Ms. Francis’ novel Shadow’s Way, had me enthralled from page one, it kept me reading until so late into the night that I used a flashlight in order not to wake my husband.
I’ve always enjoyed reading gothic tales, but this one went beyond most that I had read. The synopsis was correct, past and present mingled and left me on the edge of my seat. Was G – G – Daddy a real paranormal experience or a figment of Elaine Chauvier’s imagination, which got worse as she sunk deeper into insanity?
I loved the various characters that Ms. Francis brought into play as needed to heighten the story. They were well rounded and interconnected in ways that one has to keep reading to get the full picture.

Destined to be a Christmas classic. The Last Magi is the story of Artaban, the fourth Wise Man, who leaves his betrothed, the beautiful Rasha, to follow his fellow Magi to Bethlehem. Arriving too late, he sets out to find the child born under the star. Years pass as Artaban chases wisps and rumors across two continents. Weary and impoverished, the last Magi refuses to quit his quest, even as time is running out. "An epic quest for the greatest treasure of all.” Rev. Phil Moyers.
5.0 out of 5 stars A book for all seasons
This is so much like our lives. We work and work to get where we think we should be going, only to find ourselves pulled over again and again. But these side turns are really God leading us to something He wants us to do. This book is called a Christmas story but it really has more to do with Easter for its message is less about the birth of Christ than His permanence in our lives even unto death. A magnificent story!

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A LOVELY STORY OF A QUEST TO FIND THE CHRIST CHILD - A GREAT BOOK FOR ANY TIME OF THE YEAR
Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2020
E.A. Sharpe wrote an absolutely wonderful story that will give you a lift and show what commitment to a goal will bring to you.
It is the story of a Magi who missed his fellow Magi on their quest to find the child whom the star and prophecy spoke of. Yet he sets out on his own, and through hardship, and delays he gives all he has to help those in need along the way.
Years later he feels he is too late, but is he?
I loved this short book of Artaban’s quest to find Christ and believe it is a story that is a great read at any time of the year, especially at Easter.
