A STORY THAT WILL TOUCH YOU DEEPLY - LULU & BETTY: GROWING UP IN CHANGING TIMES BY PATRICIA SAWYERS FISKE. ALL PROFITS GO TO THE UNITED METHODIST CHILDREN'S HOME IN DELTONA, FL

Our story about Betty and Lulu, who grew up in peaceful times, begins in 1933, during the depression, and ends in the early forties as prosperity returned, as our country began mobilizing for World War II. I started this book because I thought it would be beneficial for young people, like my talented granddaughter, Maria, to contrast growing up during the past seventy-five years, with my formative years, a time of peace, from 1927-1941. Our childhoods were so very different. I’ve watched my granddaughter entertain herself with technology from an early age. While she missed knowing about doodlebugs, she can always look them up on her I-Phone or laptop. From a very early age, she was aware of world events; whereas, I didn’t realize that my back yard in Kerrville, Texas, was not the center of the Universe until I started to school.

This book is a real joy to read. It follows all the personal experiences of two friends who grow up during the depression and World War II eras. Their many youthful experiences in this challenging era will take some elders back to another time and allow young readers to share a different world. Patricia Sawyers Fiske is no longer with us, but her story will touch you deeply.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REMARKABLE AND WONDERFUL READ
Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2020I bought this book from the publisher at the recommendation of my friend and neighbor Bev, who passed away in 2019.
I loved Patricia Sawyers novel Lulu and Betty Growing up in Changing Times. It took me on a journey back through time, to the days my mother spoke of, when life was simpler, and children’s games were taken from nature, and the imagination could do wonders with just a little.
Reading of the meeting between Betty and Lulu and following them from childhood to young women when the world changed for everyone, and WWII happened.
It is a wonderfully written story, and one I believe is more of a memoir than fiction.
Kudos to Ms., Sawyers Fiske, I would have loved to have known her and sat with her for hours just listening. I know my mother would have loved talking with her too.

What happened next nearly stopped her heart.

"I can't imagine being in a relationship & not contemplating the effectiveness of one's actions, or non-action on the other." READERS FAVORITE SILVER MEDALIST - RELATIONSHIP BY A. WILLIAM BENITEZ IS WORTH THE READ.

My goal with this book is to share information that readers might find of value in their own relationships. Looking back on my own life experience, I wish someone had shared
some of this with me so I could have avoided learning many things the hard way.

Relationship: Notes on Love, Mutual Respect, Boundaries, Marriage, and Divorce contains ten easy to read and understand chapters with valuable, down-to-earth notes based on real life experience. In addition to a Preface and Introduction, the chapters are What is Love, What is A Good Relationship, Fostering and Nurturing Relationships, Harming Relationships, Mutual Respect, Boundaries, Marriage, Breakups and Divorce, Helpful Tips, and Final Thoughts. While relationship is seldom simple, this book boils it down to no-fluff basics.

Not everything in this book will feel comfortable
to everyone. You may find some of the suggestions uncomfortable or even intrusive. I fully expect some push back from men and perhaps some women. Even I have found that not all of the ideas work for me, but some of those have worked for others.

Every relationship involves two unique individuals and only you and your partner can decide what may be of value to you. I believe there is much in this book worth exploring and I hope many couples will benefit from the reading.

I’m fortunate to be in a wonderful relationship
and I wish everyone the same happiness that Barbara and I share.

Relationships are not about competition between partners. It should be about giving and taking.
By A Benitez
Relationship: Notes On Love, Mutual Respect, Boundaries, Marriage, and Divorce by A William Benitez explores the subject of intimate relationship and probes how one can be in a wonderful relationship. This book contains ten insightful chapters:
-What Is Love
-What is a Good Relationship
-Fostering and Nourishing Relationships
-Harming Relationships
-Mutual Respect
-Boundaries
-Marriage
-Breakups and Divorce
-Helpful Tips
-Final Thoughts

The author did a fantastic job writing this book. In the first chapter he defines love, "a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person." If you have ever been in one then you know that it is a give and take in order to survive. Compromising is so important. It all depends on which stage of the game you are in. I am in my 40's so my experiences are different than those who are teenagers, whom could benefit from reading this book. They say that those that experienced it can give advice and tips of what they have learned to help you avoid tender mistakes. I especially liked the harmful relationships, mutual respect and boundaries chapters as I need to learn all of them once again. As a codependent it helps to keep me on track in my current relationships even if they are not love related, which includes friend, family and coworkers. Anyone could benefit from the helpful book with tips and thoughts of a personal experienced writer.

"No Freedom by Inge-Lise Goss is a suspense novel with a splash of something for everyone. It's fantasy, sci-fi-, dystopian, romance, and mystery all wrapped up into one imaginative, futuristic tale...grabs you from the first paragraph! I can honestly say that out of the dozens of books I've read this year, No Freedom is one of the top two. I loved it. The author did a great job of making it feel realistic despite it being a fantasy/sci-fi read...The engaging plot, excellent writing style, grammar, and punctuation makes this a five-star read (and higher if I could). This is a future movie!"--Kristy Vee, Readers' Favorite Reviewer ★★★★★
"No Freedom... is a unique science fiction story that is set in an age of intriguing technological advancement...The backdrop of the story was-really fascinating, starting from laws put in place...to the ability of humans to purchase android companions...a must-read for science fiction fans."--Edith Wairimu, Readers' Favorite Reviewer ★★★★★

"No Freedom...is a futuristic dystopian thriller...The plot is unique... The writing is tight with dialogue that sounds natural in a setting that is anything but. I think this story will find a wide audience across multiple genres and I am absolutely confident and comfortable in recommending it to others." --Asher Syed, Readers' Favorite Reviewer ★★★★★

Get started in the right direction. I researched a lot of books on this subject before I chose this one, and I'm
glad I did.

A family member bought me some books on starting a business and they
didn't really cover any of the information I was looking for. This business is
a business however you sell yourself and your abilities, not a product made
somewhere else by someone else in a rented space.

This book was informative and gave practical knowledge and experience that
was easy to understand. I would recommend this book to those who are thinking about going out on
your own, and those who already have...

RELATIONSHIP BY BILL BENITEZ IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOKS I HAVE READ THIS YEAR. IT IS A BOOK TO BE SAVORED

When I decided to write this book on relationship, my wife Barbara was surprised and cautioned me by saying that she would not dare write such a book because it was such a varied topic with so many nuances. That scared me because she is certainly more qualified to write about relationship than I am. I hesitated for a while.
Most of my writing had been on housing, business, woodworking, even publishing, but nothing on relationship. It's an expansive topic and I wasn't sure if my information would be of real value. I considered that all my books are based on firsthand experience and realized that even though I'm not an expert, I have a lifetime of experience in relationship. Based on that I felt able to contribute something helpful to some readers and I feel good about this book.
Picture
Oftentimes clear, true insight comes from someone not "trained" or "educated" in a particular field of thought. This book represents one of those times. The subject of "relationships" is so complicated few outside the legal/ counseling/mental health arenas even attempt to address it for fear of being ignored, misunderstood or, worse yet, laughed at.
The author's conversational style makes his book about the subject quite easy to read / understand and as one absorbs his meaning . . . believable. It rings so true that as I was reading, I kept wanting to cut out paragraphs to put on my computer, refrigerator and bathroom mirror!
Read this book. You will be glad you found it. In fact, you will probably send a copy to your child . . . I did!

LIKE I USED TO DANCE - BY BARBARA FRANCES IS A FASCINATING TALE OF LIFE IN THE 1950'S AND FULL OF COMPASSION, HUMOR, AND SUSPENSE.

Picture
“Our kids, my, my, Gracie” laughed Bud. “Where did we go wrong? One marries God, another a Jew and the last one, the devil!”
Texas, 1951. The Wolanskys—Grace, Bud and their three grown children—are a close-knit clan, deeply rooted in their rural community and traditional faith. On their orderly farm, life seems good and tomorrow always holds promise.
But under the surface, it’s a different story. Grace is beset by dark memories and unnamed fears, calmed only by practicing a secret obsession. Their son Andy has said no to becoming a farmer like his dad and, worse, has fallen in love with a big-city Jewish girl. Youngest child Regina is trapped in a loveless marriage to an abusive, alcoholic husband. Even “perfect” daughter Angela’s decision to become a nun unleashes consequences no one could foresee.
And then Ceil Dollard breezes into town.
Ceil—wealthy, sophisticated, irrepressible—is like a visitor from Mars. She’s a modern woman. She drives a car and wears pants. She blows away tradition and certainty, forcing Grace to face her fears and brave a changing world. Through Ceil, Grace learns about courage and pleasure—but at the risk of losing Bud.
Barbara Frances’ sparkling, richly human novel takes you back to a time when Ike was president and life was slower, but people were the same as now. You’ll encounter a cast of characters storm-tossed by change, held together by love. Written with compassion, humor and suspense, Like I Used to Dance will charm you, warm you and even squeeze a few tears, from its opening number to the last waltz.

Don’t start this book before bedtime or you’ll be late to work! I love family sagas and this one swept me along. It’s about Grace, a warm, creative woman strong for her family but out of touch with her own needs. The place is rural Texas and the time is the fifties, when women were still trapped as homemakers. The family is Catholic and Grace’s daughters have their own struggles. Angela is unsure if she should become a nun and Regina has to decide if she’ll divorce her abusive husband. Grace herself is a talented artist who has never realized her potential. She develops a close bond with Ceil, a sophisticated transplant from LA who blows into the life of Grace and her family like a powerful wind. In the end, everything turn s out but nothing is the same. A great read!

WHAT IS GOOD? WHAT IS EVIL? WHAT IS REALITY? - SHADOW'S WAY - BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR BARBARA FRANCES

Prepare to be spellbound. Barbara Frances' long-awaited third novel,
“Shadow's Way,” takes you to the coastal, deep South, where the past and the
present mingle in a gothic tale of insanity, murder, and sexual intrigue.

You'll meet the beautiful Elaine Chauvier, former actress and proprietor of
Shadow's Way, her family's antebellum home; the esteemed Archbishop
Andre Figurant and his fallen identical twin, Bastien; newly arrived Ophelia
and Rudy, here to explore their Chauvier roots and their ties to Shadow's
Way; and the mysterious Madame Claudine. Under a veneer of piety and
graciousness, i.e., the questions: What is good? What is evil? What is reality?

Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite
Shadow’s Way is a work of gothic intrigue and Southern mystery penned by author Barbara Frances. In this sweeping narrative of interpersonal drama, intended for mature readers, we meet Elaine Chauvier at the novel’s titular home, where she runs a bed and breakfast. Elaine is keen to hang on to Shadow’s Way, so when her half-sister Ophelia and cousin Rudy show up to visit, trouble ensues. Combining this with a mysterious Archbishop, his housekeeper and obscure identical twin, the novel progresses swiftly into a creepy and intriguing mystery as a massive hurricane approaches the Gulf Coast. A superbly haunted time awaits its readers.
Picture
Ms. Francis’ novel Shadow’s Way, had me enthralled from page one, it kept me reading until so late into the night that I used a flashlight in order not to wake my husband.
I’ve always enjoyed reading gothic tales, but this one went beyond most that I had read. The synopsis was correct, past and present mingled and left me on the edge of my seat. Was G – G – Daddy a real paranormal experience or a figment of Elaine Chauvier’s imagination, which got worse as she sunk deeper into insanity?
I loved the various characters that Ms. Francis brought into play as needed to heighten the story. They were well rounded and interconnected in ways that one has to keep reading to get the full picture.

LOTTIE'S ADVENTURE: FACING THE MONSTER BY BARBARA FRANCES IS A REFRESHING CHAPTER BOOK FOR EIGHT TO EIGHTY AND TOLD IN THE STYLE OF A MODERN DAY MARK TWAIN

Picture
Lottie's Adventure: Facing The Monster, is an action-packed children's book written especially for ages 8 through 14. Children will enjoy this exciting read while also improving their reading skills. Twenty-nine chapters filled with twists and turns keep kids reading to discover the outcome.

Lottie, a lively ten-year old Hispanic girl, longs for something new and different in her life. Her summers up to this point have all been, more or less, the same. Then the arrival of a magical letter and a TV newscast transforms her vacation time in a high adventure.

Her great adventure includes trying to relate to a cold, estranged, and rich grandmother, freeing a kidnapped ten-year-old African American boy from a locked room, hiding him in a safe place, and then fleeing with him from a kidnapper who is always just a step or two behind.
Picture
What a refreshing plot. All of the characters are so believable. Lottie seems like someone that you have known who lives across town, down the street, or maybe even your next door neighbor. We need more stories like this one that show just how important family connections are. The older and younger generations connect in such a loving way as Lottie showed so much compassion for someone not of her race or gender. How awesome! There are lots of readers, young and old, who will find this and intriguing tale.
