Natalie Fisher committed suicide after an author stole her work and published it as her own. Two years later, her best friend Terri is found dead in her hotel room. Are the two deaths connected? Laura Fitz and Detective Gibbons are on the case to trap a ruthless author trying to get away with murder!
Whether you have been following the Laura & Gerry Mystery series, or you are jumping into book seven in the series like myself, you will enjoy the read.
Sit back in your favorite beach chair, relax with lemonade in hand, and follow Laura Fitz and Detective Gibbons as they try to unravel the mystery of why Terri Carter is the second author to die. Best not to drink wine and eat dark chocolate while reading this very active, short, easy to read, suspenseful mystery. Keep reading and you will learn why….
Chapter one opens in November 2015 with Natalie Fisher frantically searching for her flash drive which holds her finished manuscript. If data has ever gone missing on your PC, you can relate to her dilemma. For an author who has just invested their life into a manuscript, traumatic is an understatement. This is the beginning of more than one mystery that will keep you turning the page. Question remains, is theft of a manuscript worth committing suicide over?
With a full cast of well-developed characters that could live in a home town near you, each with their part to play in this believable story line that could end up on the TV show ID Discovery. Laura’s eccentric neighbor Myrna might hold an important key in the case. Human emotions run deep surrounding envy, thief, suicide, sabotage, revenge and possible plausible deniability.
I invite you to join Detective Gibbons at the Convention Centre for the Writers' Symposium. He is there to talk to the authors and follow through on some alibis. This will be a challenge as the authors are still in shock over “Such a brilliant candle in the literary world snuffed way too soon!”
I, Theodocia Mclean, endorse Dead To Writes (Laura & Gerry Mystery Book 7) by Karen Vaughan. I invite you the pick up the whole Laura & Gerry Mystery series for you reading enjoyment. I purchased this book in Kindle.

IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT LUCJAN TAKES A HARROWING JOURNEY TO ESCAPE RUSSIAN OCCUPIED POLAND IN 1913. FROM THE PAGES OF GRANDFATHER'S LIFE - VIV DREWA
In 1913, Lucjan Czepirski is a man trapped in Russian occupied Poland. This short story concentrates on his escape and is suspenseful until the very end. Viv Drewa paints a story about a desperate man determined to have a better life.
This is a grandfather's true story of his frightening and perilous journey to freedom from occupied Poland behind the Iron Curtain in 1913. So many of these true stories of our family member's bravery have been lost because they didn't want to talk about it. It is a tiny glimpse into a man's soul.
Stand-up comic Dave Feener has a great rapport with his audience, so when his body is found maliciously stabbed a short distance away from The Laff Attak where he's just performed, there seems to be no real motive for the brutal murder. A serial killer who does not think local comics are funny has just begun his rampage.
Constables Mike Borneo and Lissa Cassway along with detective Vince Vetters are racing to find the killer before he claims another victim. Was Feener just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Left with his wedding ring and his wallet, Feener's body isn't even cold when the killer strikes again-this time stabbing Phil Vetters, a comic known for his redneck shtick and the brother of detective Vince Vetters. Just as Vince vows revenge, the killer makes a fateful mistake when he stabs another comic and does not ensure his victim is dead before he leaves the crime scene.
The killer is a sicko, but not an idiot. He's right under everyone's noses and the anticipation of a righteous kill is all just part of the fun. Only time will tell if the killer will have the last laugh.
Dead Comic Standing
With a chance at success quelling their fears, a slew of new comics are eager to have a chance, even with a psychotic serial killer out to get them all, to step on stage following each seasoned comic murder in Karen Vaughan's, Dead Comic Standing. It's a humorous whodunit full of hilarious comedy relief by many of the future victims in this tightly written book. You get the benefit of a cozy mystery, a sizzling romance and laughs all in one that keeps you reading until the end. I so enjoyed this book! 5 stars.
THE NURSE MARE'S TALE BY MARTA MORAN BISHOP - THE AUTHOR OF THE AWARD-WINNING DINKY: THE NURSE MARE'S FOAL
The Nurse Mare's Tale is in a way the prequel to Dinky:The Nurse Mare's Foal, as it tells the story of Dinky's mother. This lovely story is told from the viewpoint of two aging nurse mares about to give birth, and the trials they go through. It tells us of Sadie and her friend Nellie and is accompanied with charming dialogue (both speaking and thinking). The plight of these animals is described in empathetic detail.
After enduring years of breeding and loss, the older nurse mares must face the auction with the promise of being slaughtered, as they have become too old for breeding and thus unable to be rented out as nurse mares to feed the foals of the high-dollar mares.
Do they accept their fate, or will there be another ending for the nurse mares that have given everything and received little in return?
The ending may surprise you. It is a poignant story that will rip your heart out and put you back together again.
Nurse-Mares-Tale by Marta Moran Bishop
This story about the past and present treatment of horses will appeal to all animal lovers and especially to horse aficionados. The tale is told from the point of view of an aging mare, whose main function appears to be breeding foals so that she can milk the foal of a high dollar mare.
From the viewpoint of two horses, Sadie and her friend Nellie, with accompanying charming dialogue (both speaking and thinking), the plight of these animals is described in empathetic detail. This lovely story portrays two aging mares about to give birth, and the trials they go through to give birth and protect their newborn babies. The reader is drawn into the story, culminating in the wonderful escape coup the mares plan, and are able to carry out, to gain their freedom and find a new life.
The symbolism of the conclusion, where Sadie is renamed Angel and given responsibility for becoming a nurse mare for her new owner's motherless foal, brings the circle around as the new owner proclaims, "We all need jobs. It makes us feel important."
Those of you who have previously read and enjoyed the author's Dinky, The Nurse Mare's Foal, will love and appreciate this prequel. Sherrill S. Cannon - Author and Poet
THE NURSE MARE'S TALE Is the story of Dinky's mother Sadie, to her friends. During the time before his birth, she recalls the loss of her first baby taken from her by vicious wolves. At the barn, humans refer to her as Ghost for she is all white and very quiet. After Sadie gives birth to Dinky, she must endure another loss, when he is ripped away from her, so she can nurse a more prominent foal destined for greatness. After enduring years of breeding and loss, the older nurse mares must face the auction with the promise of being slaughtered, as they have become too old for breeding and nursing.
Do they accept their fate, or will there be another ending for the nurse mares that have given everything, and received little in return?
The ending may surprise you. It is a poignant story that will make you cry and rejoice. Karen Vaughan - Author The Laura and Gerry Mystery Series
DINKY: THE NURSE MARE'S FOAL IS THAT RARE BOOK THAT DELVES INTO THAT FINE PLACE WHERE HUMAN'S AND HORSES MEET - BY MARTA MORAN BISHOP
Winnie Award Winner at the Equus Film Festival. Best Equine Rescue book.
Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal is the story of one little foals fight for survival after being taken from his mother within hours of his birth. Dinky, takes us on a poignant trip through the heart and mind of an animal, who was born for the sole purpose of producing milk in the mare. In the elite world of horses, Dinky was considered a by-product, a ‘junk foal.’
Dinky’s story will resonate with animal lovers, as well as anyone who has adopted. Although a horse, his story has been called an adoption story. The reader can follow him through the heartbreak, cruelty, loneliness, and finally to happiness in his forever home. His story is based on true events. Each event from the moment the author met Dinky actually happened, though it is the author’s interpretation of what he might have been thinking and feeling during the occasions described in his story. His early life which is unknown has been fictionalized by the author and constructed through research and imagination.
There are many wonderful animal rescue leagues, many are very empathic to these young animals, though some are not. Since Ms. Bishop has no knowledge of Dinky’s early days she used the latter to enhance the strength of his story.
It will break your heart, open your eyes, lift you up, and teach you much about horses. It is suitable for all ages.
Dinky the Nurse Mare’s Foal is a beautiful story. Marta Moran Bishop was both adventurous and ambitious to undertake an animal’s tale from the first person point of view, and yet she has done it brilliantly. Whether you read Dinky in a straightforward way, as a moving description of the tribulations of a particular caste of equine life, or as an allegory for how we value and treat other humans of humble birth, there is no denying the power and pathos in this work. This book follows in the greatest traditions of Misty of Chincoteague, and Black Beauty, delving into the magnanimous, yet sometimes daunting emotions in that rare, fine place where humans and horses meet. No, you don’t have to love horses to revel this great story of survival. In the end, Dinky will show readers a hard lesson in not bowing to overwhelming hardship if only one can hold a vision for the highest expression of life that one and all deserve.

DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE THIS MIDNIGHT OWL IS NOT YOUR USUAL COZY MYSTERY - BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR VIV DREWA
When the dismembered body of a young woman is found, Detectives Joe Leverette and Philip Marsden are assigned the case. After investigating the Port Huron, Michigan area where the six body parts were found, but there's a twist in the case: The Murderer goes after each individual who found the parts, one by one.
Leverette becomes interested in one of the women, Carole Sage, a sensitive, but because of the case, he's not able to take it any further. Everyone on the police force sees his infatuation, but Carole does not.
Each of the six witnesses has a dream about the murderer removing the particular body part they found that night. They are startled awake and hear an owl hoot three times. None of them want to reveal their dream to the detectives.
Carole sees the actual murder and each murder as it happens to the witnesses. The police chief, Billingsley, understands her 'gift' and sets up a sting to catch him. It fails and they have to regroup to think of something else. Two witnesses are dead and they don't want a third to die.
This book is for 18+ due to the violence.
Midnight Owl is the first book in the Joe Leverette Mystery Series. Don’t get too comfortable because the book starts off with a real bang. The action erupts on page one as a young woman is stalked. We, the readers, get to watch her death by dismemberment. That’s right, dismemberment. So if you’re looking for a sweet little murder mystery with a Miss Marple lookalike pottering around, think again. This is not it. The body is cut into six parts, and these parts are found by six individuals, completely unrelated to each other or the victim. The problem is, each ‘witness’ has had a horrible dream involving seeing the criminal kill the young woman. The body part they dream about is the one they find. They awaken to the sound of an owl hooting three times. Naturally, they don’t tell the police this because they’d be thought mad or even suspects. An even bigger problem is the killer is now going after these ‘witnesses’ and he manages to kill two. Detective Joe Leverette, who is assigned to the case, finds himself (hesitantly) attracted to one of the witnesses, Carole Sage, who is a ‘sensitive,’ meaning she can see the original murder and the murders of the two witnesses. The police sting set up to catch the killer fails, but is Carole next on his list?
Well, put aside your chores because you’ll just read and read and read (as I did) until you fall off the edge of the cliff. There’s no cliff-hanger in the conventional sense. The book ends with the reader going, “Oh no, don’t end now!” I’m a bit of a cozy mystery fan so this one had my hair standing on end. I love things that are slightly paranormal but not outside the bounds of what could happen. I found the idea of Carol's physic abilities fascinating. I also found the fact that the chief of police accepted her help in this regard quite refreshing I wonder how many times a physic pointed out the location of a body to the police.
The book is quite graphic, but when you consider some novels and television series that make sure the reader/viewer is awash in blood and gore, I didn’t think this level of action overstepped the bounds. Murder, after all, is a bloody business and to commit cold, premeditated murder, one has to be a particularly horrible person. I was disappointed that the book ended so abruptly, literally at the moment critique, but I have it on good authority that the author is writing furiously to continue the tale. I’m dying to know who the killer is, why the ‘witnesses’ had dreams, what’s the meaning of the owl hooting, so I’m eagerly waiting for the next in the series. I didn’t feel I got to know as much about Joe Leverette as I’d have liked, but that’s what sequels are for, and I hope the author expands on his character and back story. I’m also rooting for a romance between him and Carole. If you’re a murder mystery or detective thriller fan, you’ll love this book. Five stars.
