I was looking for a new book for my great-nephew and happened upon this one. I love children's books written in a singsong rhyming style reminiscent of Dr. Seuss and this book was just what I was looking for.
The cadence of the rhyme along with the skillful illustrations rapidly engages the youngster's attention as they follow the characters on their search for the 'golden ruler,' A fun and enjoyable read, this book also imparts an important lesson for youngsters without being preachy.
My great-nephew thoroughly enjoyed it and, I hope, took away with him a valuable concept.
I can recommend this book without reservation to any who have young children in their lives
When Emlyn Goode’s mother returns to Niagara Falls for a high school reunion, so does murder. During the reunion, a woman’s body is found in the ladies room. Is this killing connected to one that occurred 40 years before in the woods below the town of Lewiston? Harry Woodward, a young police officer working his first murder case suspected Emlyn’s mother of the crime, although there wasn’t enough evidence to arrest her.
Home from a year-long leave, Harry—now the Niagara Falls Chief of Detectives—together with Emlyn’s friend, Detective Roger Frey, investigates the latest killing. Distraught over indications her mother might have been involved in both murders, Emlyn, with her cohort, Rebecca Nurse, sets out to prove otherwise. But, danger lurks in the shadows when amateurs—even ones with witchy skills—get involved with murder.
The third installment of the Emlyn Goode mystery series was the best yet. The Emlyn-Roger curve ball kept me on pins and needles, and I couldn't read fast enough to find out if it would be resolved. Another good job, Susan Solomon. On to the next one!

Will one of Bryan's pen pals be his savior? Is there a light at the end of a very dark tunnel?
A HARROWING ESCAPE FROM RUSSIAN OCCUPIED POLAND IN 1913 - FROM THE PAGES OF GRANDFATHER'S LIFE BY VIV DREWA
This is a grandfather's true story of his frightening and perilous journey to freedom from occupied Poland behind the Iron Curtain in 1913. So many of these true stories of our family member's bravery have been lost because they didn't want to talk about it. It is a tiny glimpse into a man's soul.
In nineteen-thirteen, when Lucjen finds out that he will be drafted into the Russian military, and forced to fight his friends and neighbors for the Russian Czar. He and his friend Franciszek, join twenty other people in an harrowing escape to the Americas.
Ms. Drewa's short story of her grandfather's escape holds all the fear, terror, and hardship one would expect if they themself were living through it.
I hope that Ms. Drewa turns this suspense filled story into a novella. This brief glimpse into the times leaves one begging for more.
Kudos to Viv Drewa for taking on the telling of her grandfather's journey. A must read for both history buffs and those who love adventure, and suspense.
EVEN PREGNANT LAURA IS STILL A CORPSE MAGNET - LEFT FOR DEAD - BOOK 6 OF THE LAURA & GERRY MYSTERIES BY KAREN VAUGHAN
Things are really starting to heat up in the Fitz family. Even pregnant, Laura can't stay out of harms way after Gerry’s cousin and best buddy is left for dead after a beating. When the thugs responsible find out he didn’t die, the game is on to keep Pete safe until he has to testify. After finding a body on a mountain trail in cottage country Laura helps a local police officer solve the crime while waiting for the birth of her first baby.
I think Karen Vaughan must have fun every time she sits down to write a story,Thankfully the humor and fun come through n her books and readers get a delightful read that also adds in murder, mystery and suspense. The novels with Laura and Gerry are a series that can also be read as stand alone books, I highly recommend all of them because readers will love the characters the author has created. In this story, murder and mystery connect to mob ties and the adventure is on. For me, I loved that a neighbor of Laura and Gerry's and a tenant in the building they manage is the one caught up in murder. Through the books, I have found, Stella is the character you love to hate. Grabbing a book by this author always guarantees a good read, a fun story and a murderous adventure
Left for Dead by Karen Vaughan, is witty and intelligently told mystery story. It’s the 6th in the Laura and Gerry mysteries series and a delightfully penned book.
It seems even pregnancy will not stop Laura Fitz from being a corpse magnet, as she stumbles yet again onto another dead body. While Laura is talking to the police, she receives a phone call from hubby. Apparently, Laura’s gift or curse for discovering the dead and becoming embroiled in the nasty affairs of the murder has rubbed off on to Gerry, for he has found his cousin near death.
The Fitz’s have once again become entangled in murder, mayhem, the lives of others along with the danger it entails. But, through it, all Laura remains her witty self. Gerry doesn’t fair as well as his love for Laura and their coming baby, upset his judgement at times. After all, it is difficult to be objective when the life of one's wife is on the line.
Ms. Vaughan has another terrific read in Left for Dead. I enjoyed this book enormously and highly recommend it to everyone.

If you haven't read a book by this author, grab this and if you have, you will already know you have to have another mystery, suspense from this author. Laura and Gerry are back and headed to Jamaica. Of course, with Laura you have to have murder, mystery and a bot of fun. Donavon and Becky Mitchell are also headed to the same resort and although not Laura and Gerry's first choice for friends they do get to know each other and then Donavon ends up dead and readers are in for a great ride involving voodoo, murder, drugs and a well told tale.
SLIGHTLY BAWDY MURDER MYSTERY - DEAD MEN DON'T SWING BY KAREN VAUGHAN Book 4 in the Laura & Gerry Mystery Series
Laura and Gerry have moved from Scarborough to North York. Death has followed them to the highrise they manage and Laura has to deal with a tenant with attitude as well as a dead one in the dumpster. Cookie the corpse magnet strikes again in this hilarious yet slightly bawdy mystery.
Readers are in for a fast paced, mystery thriller that is also fun. I love this author's sense of humor. Gerry and Laura are back, this time they are managing an apartment complex. Things go wrong when they find a dead man in a dumpster with some strange wounds. Searching into the mystery, they are going to uncover some people in the building have some strange pastimes. That author has written several books with Gerry and Laura as the main characters and each one is a fun, suspense mystery that is hard to put down. Karen Vaughn has a great writing style that is like sitting down and talking with an old friend. This story, like the rest, are must have reads.

Which story I liked best would depend upon my mood at the time. Suffice to say that I found none of them disappointing and each in its own way haunting.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READ
The honeymoon of Laura and Gerry Fitz is off to a fast-paced yet deadly start when they arrive in Florida. There is a maniac behind the wheel who needs to win at all costs. When he wins, life is great but when he loses he is DRIVEN TO KILL!
The first victim off the starting line is Laura's ex-husband Lou, and she is taking it personally. Mix in a creepy cop and some unexpected surprises and you have a race for your life. Who will win and who will wipe out?...
This book is a hoot! The moment our Canadian friends arrive for their honeymoon in Daytona, FL all hell breaks loose. Laura and Gerry just happen to run over a dead body when they arrive and that dead body just happens to be Laura's ex. As you can imagine, good cops and bad cops alike have them on their radar, before you can say "I'm going to Disney World". They don't hit that tourist hotspot, btw. What they do is their best to enjoy themselves as honeymoon couples are wont to do. They manage to squeeze in some quality time and even do some touristy things that involve a lot of eating, drinking and NASCAR racing. That all happens in between stumbling upon clues, a break-in at their hotel, trips to the local police station, and a mounting number of missing and dead people. The best thing, for me, is Laura's sarcastic wit and her hubby's devotion to his new wife, despite her proclivity to attract trouble like a Porterhouse steak in a pack of Doberman Pinschers! This isn't the first time she's been up to her "almost-plus-sized" neck in trouble. Daytona Dead is the third in the series, so if you want to find out more about Laura you can read Dead on Arrival and Over Her Dead Body. Kudos to a fun, funny, fast read.
